Description

Prodigy aerial slings (also known as silk slings, silk loops, and silk hammocks) are rigged as a hammock and are a fun and accessible way to combine trapeze and silk skills.

While distinct from aerial yoga, aerial sling practice is more dynamic and needs more height, there is a crossover between the disciplines, and you can use aerial sling for your yoga practice too!

The fabric is the same low stretch,  2.8m (110") wide used for Prodigy Aerial Silk and Yoga Hammocks.

The O-rings are included.

Aerial Safety

Aerial equipment should never be used unsupervised, please consult a professional.

Everything below assumes you have a suitable and safe rigging point, like a professionally installed rigging point or a reputable and rated freestanding rig. Not every home/studio will be the same, so we cannot advise on this part. If you haven’t established a safe rigging point, please do this first with the help of a structural engineer/experienced rigger/professional familiar with what you're hanging and where you're hanging it.

Check out our aerial blogs for more information.

Wrap, drop, fly!

Aerial slings are available in 8m or 10m lengths to perform more traditional silks style moves.

The longer length is used for climbing, inverting from standing, body wraps, and belays. You can also perform dynamic moves like rolls, slides, beats, and drops.

The 2.8m width allows you to lay fully flat or even get into a full horizontal split. The fabric used for Prodigy Slings is woven with a tricot warp knit, giving them a small amount of bounce (low-stretch does not mean zero-stretch). This makes it easy to set the correct height without compensating for too much stretch once your weight is in it. It also means drops or moves requiring a thin band of silk around you are nicely cushioned.

A fixed length sling with O-rings

Your aerial sling comes with O-rings included.

This rigging method is best for an aerial sling because once you have set the height, you won't need to make many adjustments.

The O-rings will allow you to rig from one or two points and change between them quickly.

1 point rigging

Rigging your aerial sling from 1 point is the most common method, and it’s the easiest way to add a swivel. The included O-rings can be connected to a carabiner, which can be connected to a swivel.

You can use a rigging plate if you want more separation in the fabric.

2 point rigging

You can rig your aerial sling from 2 points, just like a yoga hammock. It gives you more space inside the fabric, it's an excellent set-up for aerial conditioning, and it’s more stable and easier to control.

You can rig this from a swivel by using a spreader bar.

How to rig these hammocks

We've partnered with Circus Rigging & Safety to create a series of fantastic videos to help you.

Mark Gibson from Aerial Edge, Glasgow’s Circus School, and Catherine Knowles, from Community Circus Paisley, will share their knowledge with you, and if you need to know anything else - we're here to help you too!

How to tie the knot!

No, we don't mean marriage. Here’s our quick guide to tying your hammock to O-rings.

We use this knot because it's easier (but not easy) to untie after using the hammock compared to other knots.

Selvedge

Prodigy silks are produced with gummed edges, which prevent the fabric from curling after production. These appear as a series of slightly darker circles.

To retain the full width of the fabric, these edges have not been trimmed.

Please rest assured that they do not affect the strength, durability, or function of the fabric.

Recommended accessories

Rigging with a figure 8

If you don’t want to use the included O-rings, you can rig your sling using a figure 8. This method is very stable and is best suited to rigging from 1 point. If you want to rig from 2 points use O-rings.

You tie each end of the fabric onto the figure 8 using this method.

Use a 5 Loop or 10 Loop Chain to adjust the height

It’s essential to set the correct height for your sling.

You can adjust the height without untying the knots using our 5 loop or 10 loop chain.
